All SIM card users in Ghana will be required to re-register their SIM cards by June 2020 or risk deactivation.
This is a directive from the Government, specifically from the Ministry of Communication. The directive is part of the government’s part to fight SIM card and Mobile Money fraud.
Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful stated that individuals who failed to register their SIM cards re-registered will have their numbers deactivated.
“The ministry has consulted all relevant stakeholders and hereby announces that from 1st January 2020, we will all be required to re-register our sim cards. Any SIM card which is not registered will be deactivated by June 2020. We entreat all citizens, residents, and visitors to cooperate with us to ensure the success of this exercise for our collective security”, she stated.
From January 1, 2020, users can start re-registering their SIM cards with the deadline for re-registration in June 2020.
