The COVID19 pandemic had a huge effect on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana. To help, the Ghana Government set up a GHC 600 million stimulus package in May whereby businesses had to apply online via an online portal.
In March, the current Ghana Government officially launch its universal QR Payment platform called “GhQR”. The solution allows Ghanaian users to make payments by scanning a unique QR code and making a direct payment to a merchant. Merchants who offer the GhQR solution will receive payments instantly.
Bolt (formally Taxify), launched its new ride option called “Bolt-Lite” in Accra. The Bolt Lite feature is 15% cheaper and offers customers the opportunity to pay less for their trips. The Bolt Lite ride option is available to users at all times except from 8 pm to 12 midnight on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday.
In June, Uber Connect is officially launched its contactless delivery service in Accra and Kumasi.
Uber Connect allows users to send packages to family and friends.
In July, we ran a full length feature story on the now seemingly defunct RLG company. Founded In 2010, RLG was run by Roland Agambire and would soon grow to become a shining example of entrepreneurship and locally made ICT products in Ghana and other African countries.
