iSpace’s flagship program, Unlocking Women and Technology (UWAT) has taken another big leap in the empowerment of young women in Ghana, with their expansion into Tamale, Kumasi, Ho and Sunyani – a groundbreaking step in the training of young ladies on the importance of technology and it’s viable use in creating world-class businesses.

The flagship program over the past few months has produced some exceptional female talent across Accra, with young ladies between the ages of 18-35, creating exceptional products and building viable businesses. Some of these include, Recycler App, MyDocGh, Harmattan Rain etc.

In the coming weeks, iSpace will be partnering and funding hubs in Tamale, Kumasi, Ho, Sunyani, thereby empowering young ladies in those areas with the opportunity to learn how to code, gain business development skills, mentorship as well as receive funding to kick-start their business ideas.

In all ramifications, this is definitely a welcome idea. Not only does it solve an acute problem of women being underrepresented in Coding or Software Engineering, it provides a golden opportunity to train as many women who are ready to get into tech and support those who have business ideas with technical and business training to scale their business.

This expansion would be a 12 week intensive, hands-on training session on standard web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and by some of the best tutors Ghana has. Asides the technical training, participants would be put through the regiments of business development, and how to scale business hurdles in an African environment.

iSpace, apart from training these ladies in the aforementioned regions, will also support their various businesses by buying out rightly, domains for their websites, registering their businesses and also provide seed fund for their start-ups, coupled with assigning them to a mentor.

There’s definitely a lot of benefit at stake. The success stories from a few of the participants in the Accra edition are already pouring in. This is an opportunity every young woman in Tamale, Kumasi, Ho and Sunyani, needs to take advantage of. You’d be better off for it in the long run.
