Ghana Surges With Momentum in Global Esports Markets

Ghana is shaking its position as an overlooked and underrated stakeholder in the gaming and esports markets – and we’re here for it.

The first quarter of 2022 officially has wrapped up and West Africa as a whole has already made a significant leap versus years past. The Ghana Esports Association stepped up in a big way by facilitating Ghana’s participation in the World Esports Championships later this year. The GEA (Ghana Esports Association) have also been tasked by the Global Esports Federation with the organization of regional qualifiers for the selection of Ghana’s team reps for the upcoming Commonwealth Esports Games.

Motherland Gaming TV is a burgeoning player within the country’s esports scene. Launched in June 2021, the organization has achieved YouTube Partnership status with over 1000 subs and 4000 hours of watch time. In collaboration with PUBG Ghana and GEA, the rising media company is currently streaming the PUBG Ghana League on the Motherland Game TV YouTube Channel. At the end of the season, finalists will face off in the PUBG Ghana Championship. The winner of the tourney will represent Ghana in the PUBG segment for Bali 2022.

Ghana based esports organization, Giiks Game City, was featured alongside Esports Africa News in the recently released encyclopedia titled ‘Innovate: Gaming and Esports.’

When two of Ghana’s esports entities are featured in the premiere industry bible, it is evident that the country’s gaming scene is catching fire – a beautiful bonfire that is shining light on a region that refuses to watch the game from the sidelines.
